The Indian government has dismissed three Indian Air Force officers after an investigation into the 'accidental' firing of a BrahMos missile into Pakistan's territory.
According to Indian news channel NDTV, the government said on Tuesday. These Indian Air Force officers have been informed about the dismissal.
The Indian Air Force has said in its statement that the BrahMos missile was accidentally fired on March 9, 2022.
A court of inquiry set up to ascertain the facts of the case, including determining responsibility for the incident, found that deviation from standard operating procedures (SOPs) led to the accidental firing of the missile by the officers.''
Accordingly, these three officers have been held primarily responsible for the incident.
The central government has terminated their services with immediate effect. On August 23, 22, the officers were dismissed.
It should be noted that on March 10 this year, the spokesman of the Pakistani army, Major General Babar Iftikhar, said that on March 9, an object (missile) had fallen in the territory of Pakistan.
Later, on March 12, in a statement issued by Pakistan's Foreign Office, it was said that "this kind of serious matter cannot be resolved by a simple explanation from the Indian authorities."
The statement added that "Pakistan demands a joint investigation into the matter so that the facts of the incident can come out."
Following Pakistan's protest over the incident, the Indian Defense Ministry confirmed that one of its missiles had landed in Pakistani territory on Wednesday this week due to a 'technical fault'.
A missile was accidentally fired due to a technical glitch during routine maintenance.
A notice has been taken of the incident and a high-level inquiry has been ordered.
