The Asia Cup cricket tournament has had everything that the fans want to see. Santh Jayasuriya's aggressive batting, Muralidharan and Ajantha Mendes' magical bowling and above all the exciting matches between Pakistan and India that captivated the world.

These two traditional cricket rivals will compete once again in the United Arab Emirates this month. They will get this opportunity in the 15th Asia Cup which will be held from August 27 to September 11.

The Asia Cup was supposed to be held in Sri Lanka, but due to the economic situation there, it has been shifted to the United Arab Emirates, but it will be hosted by Sri Lanka.

As this is the year of the T20 World Cup, the Asia Cup will also be played under the T20 format.

This will be the second time that the Asia Cup matches will be played under the T20 format. Earlier in the year 2016, the same thing happened when before the T20 World Cup, the Asia Cup was also held under the 20 overs format of cricket.

The Asian Cricket Council has decided that the same format will be adopted in the Asia Cup in the same year as the World Cup.

As always, this time also the match between Pakistan and India will be central in the Asia Cup. The fans are waiting for the traditional competition between the two teams before the T20 World Cup held in Australia.

Within ten months, the two teams will meet again in the United Arab Emirates. Pakistan defeated India by ten wickets in the T20 World Cup match held in Dubai last October.

In the world ranking of T20, India is currently at the first place while Pakistan is at the third place.

The presence of Pakistan and India in any tournament changes its fortunes, but then why is it that despite the passage of 38 years, the Asia Cup has remained at the mercy of circumstances and has not got the place it should have.

Influence of India-Pakistan relations

The Asia Cup has been greatly affected by the political relations between Pakistan and India.

In the year 1990, India was the host of the fourth Asia Cup, but at that time the relations between Pakistan and India were very bad, so Pakistan did not participate in this tournament.

In the year 1993, due to the strained relations between Pakistan and India, it was not possible to hold the Asia Cup.

The political relationship between the two countries came to the fore again when the 2018 tournament was held in the UAE instead of India, even though the then BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur had announced that it would be held in India instead of the Asian Games. Seeing the situation, the Cricket Council had to move these matches to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

It is not that only Pak-India relations have affected the Asia Cup, but in 1986, India boycotted the second Asia Cup out of anger against Sri Lanka. The reason for this resentment was the 1985 Test series played between India and Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, in which several umpiring decisions went against India and he said that it lost the Test series due to alleged biased umpiring.

India's powerful position

A common impression is that the effects of India's very powerful position in international cricket are also visible in the Asian Cricket Council and this body does not take any steps against India's wishes.

The latest example of this is the chairmanship of the Asian Cricket Council, which is currently held by the Indian Cricket Board.

Normally, the chairman of the member cricket board is the president of the Asian Cricket Council, but the interesting thing is that currently the president of the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) is Sourav Ganguly, but the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council is the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jay Shah. who is the son of ruling party BJP minister Amit Shah.

The extent to which the Asian Cricket Council is under the control of India can also be estimated from the fact that a few days ago, when there were talks about the transfer of the Asia Cup from Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates, it was officially announced by the Asian Cricket Council. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly came forward before coming from the side.

Earlier last year too, a similar situation came to light when Sourav Ganguly talked about Asia Cup being held in Dubai instead of Pakistan and the very next day Ehsan Mani denied it.

Among the member countries of the Asian Cricket Council, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are considered closer to India, but as an important member, Pakistan has never given a free hand to India.

Be it Ehsan Mani or Shehryar Khan, Pakistan's role on the platform of Asian Cricket Council has been very important.

The time is also remembered when the relations between Pakistan and India were very good and when the New Zealand cricket team ended the tour after the suicide bombing in Karachi and went back to their homeland and was not ready to come back later.

From the platform of the Asian Cricket Council, Jagmohan Dalmia supported Lt. General (retd) Taqeer Zia and convinced New Zealand and other white countries that if they do not come to Pakistan and play, then the Asian teams will also join them. will not play in the countries of

Obviously, who could upset India, that's why the New Zealand team came to Pakistan to play the ODI series only after a year.
