There is tension in the relations between India and the Maldives and the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu has given an ultimatum to India to withdraw its troops from the Maldives.

According to the foreign news agency, Maldives said that India should withdraw Indian soldiers from Maldivian territory by March 15.

Maldives President's Secretary Mohamed Muizzu says that under President Muhammad Moeizu's policy, Indian soldiers cannot stay in Maldives.

India's Ministry of External Affairs has yet to respond to the news.

It should be noted that relations between India and the Maldives have soured since the new President Mohamed Muizzu's government was established in the Maldives.

3 months ago, the President-elect of Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu, raised the slogan 'India out' in the elections and demanded the withdrawal of the Indian Army from the Maldives.

After being elected president, Mohamed Muizzu, in a departure from tradition, chose Turkeya and China instead of India for his first visit and formally asked India to withdraw Indian military personnel from his country.

Mohamed Muizzu said his government reiterated its commitment to withdraw the Indian Army from the country's strategically important region.

According to the report, around 100 Indian troops have been stationed in the Maldives since 1988 for, among other things, flying, training and surveillance.

Indian troops were deployed at the request of the government of the day to protect against the threat of insurgency and the Sri Lankan Tamil Tigers.
