The Karachi Star restaurant has free food, but it also takes care of self-respect

Eight years ago, when he saw a hungry man outside his restaurant, the Pakistani owner decided to give free food to those who could not afford it.

Since then, the staff has not let anyone go without money. In Sharjah, Shahid Asghar Bangash, who hails from Peshawar, opened a hotel called Karachi Star in 2008, which serves South Asian dishes such as biryani, kadahi and kababs.

The owner of Karachi Star said that he learned a few years ago that there are many people who come to the Emirates in search of work and often return home in such a situation that they cannot even eat food from their bags.

"The free food program was started for people who were cheated out of buildings by agents - those who have jobs and no money to eat."

He continued, "We cannot give these people jobs, but we are definitely trying to make it easier for them to eat."

According to him, "an exact figure has not been set on how many people should receive food, but about 50 receive free food every day".

According to Shahid Asghar, we have not set any conditions, these people can order anything from the daily menu.

He said that the self-esteem of those who eat for free should not be compromised. Our staff has code words for this so other customers don't know there's a free meal here.

Afzal Khan, who was cheated in the Emirates, is also among the restaurant's visitors. Star of Karachi not only gives them food but also shows them hope.

At first he was reluctant to come to eat, lest the staff mistake him for a beggar. He says: "The staff is very nice and friendly and the food served is also very tasty."

He went on to say, "It gave me enough energy to start looking for a job." In addition to free sit-down meals, the restaurant also offers takeout options.

Faisal Iqbal from Pakistan says: "I am very grateful to this restaurant because it gave me the energy I needed in difficult times."

Similarly, another person from Pakistan said, "I was surprised to see that I was also offered the same service as those who paid money." I am grateful to the owner and staff of the restaurant for this self-respecting behavior.
