After several hours of political uncertainty, Vice President Dina Bolvarte has finally taken over as the country's new President. Bolvarte, 60, will remain president until July 26, 2026.

We recall that former President Pedro Castillo tried to dissolve Parliament to avoid impeachment. Pedro Castillo was arrested on suspicion of rebellion and violation of the constitution.

The day before he had announced the dissolution of parliament and new elections, barely completing 18 months of his five-year term.

This was the third attempt to impeach Pedro Castillo after taking office in 2021.

On the other hand, following the sacking of the former president, his supporters are continuing the protests in the capital, Lima.
