The killing of a security guard, the death penalty for five protesters in Iran

A court in Iran has sentenced five people to death for killing a paramilitary officer during nationwide protests. According to the AFP news agency, the Iranian court sentenced eleven other people, including three children, on Tuesday. Long prison sentences were imposed. 

Judiciary spokesman Masood Satyashi said during a press conference that these sentences were imposed in the case of the assassination of Basij Forces officer Ruhollah Ajamian. 

According to the spokesman, these verdicts can be appealed. After the security officer's death, 15 people were arrested and charged with "spreading riots in the field". 

The murder of Ruhollah Ajamian occurred in the city of Karaj west of Tehran. Prosecutors claimed the late officer was 27 and that protesters stripped him before killing him. 

According to prosecutors, at the time of the killing, the inciters were paying their respects to a woman, Hadas Najafi, who was killed during the demonstration. . 

It was originally announced that 11 people, including a woman, were charged in the murder of Ruhollah Ajamian on November 12 last month, but four other people were named during the trial.
