FIFA WORLD CUP: Europe's monopoly ended, Argentina became world champion for the third time after defeating France

Who won the Argentina vs France?

In the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Argentina won the World Cup for the third time by defeating France, ending Europe's 16-year monopoly. Since 2006, the European team had won the World Cup four times in a row. 

The final was decided on penalties, with Argentina winning 2–4. 

As Argentina beat France in the final at Qatar's Lusail Stadium, Lionel Messi fulfilled his unfulfilled dream by making his last World Cup memorable and winning the World Cup trophy. 

Argentina was title holder in 1978 and 1986. 


In the World Cup final, Argentina took a 2-0 lead over France in the first half. The first goal for Argentina was scored by Lionel Messi in the 23rd minute, while Di Maria scored the second goal in the 36th minute. 

However, in the second half, Frenchman Mbappe scored two goals in 2 minutes to end Argentina's lead in the game. The game ended 2-2 after final score. 

In extra time, Messi scored his team's second and third goals to put Argentina 2-3 ahead, but Mbappe then scored a hat-trick to end Argentina's lead.

In extra time the score was 3-3, the world champion was decided on penalties, Argentina scored 4 goals and France 2 goals.
