EUROPE: More than 11 billion rupees worth of opium has been taken out of the Canadian port

Canadian police have seized a large amount of opium at the country's port.

According to the French news agency AFP, the amount of drugs seized amounts to about 2.5 tons hidden in containers passing from the port of Vancouver to the western province of British Columbia.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced the seizure of a large quantity of drugs late Friday night.

However, the police have not announced where the drugs came from and whether they have been arrested.

"In September, CBSA intelligence agents, along with the Organized Crime Unit of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), began investigating a major maritime container smuggling operation."

In recent years, North America has seen an increase in opium exports, much of it smuggled from Asia, which has become a major public health challenge for Canada and the United States.

A report from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) was released on Thursday.

According to the report, the number of deaths among 10-18-year-olds in the United States doubled from 2019 to 2021, and the cause is an opioid overdose.
