The Indian rupee hit a three-week high on Friday afternoon as the US dollar came under pressure following an unexpected contraction in the US economy in the June quarter. 

The rupee was trading at 79.24 per dollar at 8:37 GMT on Friday, its strongest level since July 7. 

Traders now turn their attention to the Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy meeting next week.
