A former student at a university in Iraqi Kurdistan has shot dead two professors. Police have arrested the accused.

He was taken to a hospital where he died. An Iraqi student later stormed the home of a professor at the Faculty of Engineering in a neighborhood of Erbil and opened fire.

Sources said that the student was angry at being expelled from one university and his transfer application to another university was rejected.

"The student first opened fire on the dean of the Faculty of Law, Kawan Ismail, at Salahuddin University and then broke into the house of Idris Ezzat, a mechanical professor at the Salahuddin University's Faculty of Engineering," said Erbil Governor.

"The young man is a habitual criminal and has been involved in many incidents," he said.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Najat Ahmed, said: "Professor Reedres' wife is also a professor at the university and teaches at Soran University in northern Erbil.

Police believe that the former student intended to kill Professor Idris' wife, who was not at home at the time.

"The accused was expelled from Soran University in North Erbil by the wife of Professor Idris, but the dean of the Faculty of Law at Salahuddin University refused to admit him," said Governor Raveed Khushnau.

After being expelled from Soran University, the former student had threatened to kill Dr. Idrees' wife and was arrested.
