Iran-US indirect nuclear talks will be held in Qatar

Iran and the United States plan to resume indirect talks in Qatar this week, with a State Department spokesman saying the talks would seek to restore a landmark 2015 nuclear deal. 

EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell said in Tehran on Saturday that the talks in Qatar would be different from the broader EU-mediated talks between Iran and the major powers in Vienna. 

It should be noted that the nuclear deal with Iran has been stuck since 2018 when former US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the deal and re-imposed tough economic sanctions on Iran. 

US President Joe Biden's administration said this Attempts have been made to return to the agreement, saying it would be the best way to move forward with the Islamic Republic of Iran, although it has previously expressed frustration. 

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzada said on Monday that talks Will be in the Gulf countries in the coming days.

Iran's Tasnim news agency, citing an unnamed Foreign Ministry source, reported separately that Ali Baqeri, the head of Iran's nuclear negotiators, would visit Qatar on Tuesday for talks to lift sanctions, and that the United States would hold indirect talks with Iran. 

In Washington, a State Department spokesman confirmed that the talks would be held in the Gulf this week.

Qatar has sought to act as a diplomatic hub for the talks, having previously helped facilitate talks between Washington and the Taliban before the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. 

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Khatibzada has expressed hope for positive results from the talks, saying that if Washington comes up with answers, we can work faster ... The ball is in Washington's court.
