615 million worth of corrupt currency stolen from online game

The United States has accused hackers working with North Korea's secret service of stealing 6 615 million worth of cryptocurrency from players playing an online game.

It should be noted that the online game called Exx Infinity is very popular on the internet in which players can earn cryptocurrency. 

This digital theft is being hailed as one of the biggest scams in the world of hacking.

U.S. officials say they have tracked down a group called Lazarus, believed to be under the influence of North Korea's intelligence bureau.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said in a statement on Thursday that the "investigation has confirmed that the Lazarus Group and APT38 were behind the theft of the corrupt currency. Who are affiliated with North Korea.


Lazarus Group

The Lazarus Group is not a group of anonymous hackers. The group gained worldwide notoriety in 2014 when it was accused of leaking classified data after hacking into US filmmaker Sony Pictures.

A State Department spokesman was quoted by Reuters as saying that the United States was aware that North Korea was trying to raise money for its ballistic missile program and other weapons, avoiding effective US and UN sanctions. It is committing illegal acts including cyber crime which is on the rise. 


A cyber unit called Bureau 121 

A 2020 U.S. military report states that a cyber unit called Bureau 121 in North Korea operates specifically for hacking, which was established in the 1990s.

According to the report, the hacking unit consists of 6,000 people and operates from various countries, including Belarus, China, India, Malaysia and Russia.

China Analysis, a blockchain analytics company, says North Korean hackers carried out a major scandal in 2021, involving nearly seven different cyber attacks on cryptocurrency platforms worth about  400 million worth of digital. Assets were stolen. 

The year 2021 is considered to be the most successful year for hackers from North Korea.
