Taylor Swift brought out Sabrina Carpenter for an ‘Espresso’/’Please Please Please’ mash-up at her New Orleans concert Saturday
Taylor Swift brought out surprise guest (and former Eras Tour opening act) Sabrina Carpenter during the Surprise Songs portion of her New Orleans concert on Saturday night.
“I think tonight I’m going to do something different, I’m gonna sing a song that’s not mine but it’s someone that I really love so I’m going to see how loudly you can sing the song,” Swift told the audience. “It’s been stuck in my head, and it would make feel good if I knew 65,000 other people had this song stuck in their head just as I do.”
Swift, on acoustic guitar, then launched into a few lines from Carpenter’s “Espresso,” before pausing and going off on a “tangent.” “I love my friend and I’m just so proud of Sabrina,” Swift said.
She then took out a cellphone and called Carpenter live on stage, putting the call on speaker. “I’m actually performing in New Orleans… I just wanna tell you I sang a little bit of ‘Espresso’ and they all sang so loud,” Swift told Carpenter, who then revealed she was also in the Caesars Superdome.
After a brief conversation, Carpenter then emerged onstage, where she joined Swift for a mash-up of “Espresso,” followed by 1989 (Taylor’s Version)’s “Is It Over Now?” and Carpenter’s hit “Please Please Please.”
Carpenter — who was attending the New Orleans gig between stops on her own Short n Sweet Tour; she played Tampa on Friday, and performs Sunday in Houston — previously served as the Eras Tour opener in late 2023 (during the Latin American leg) and early 2024 (on the Australia and Singapore stops), before her breakout summer that began with “Espresso.”
The two singers previously performed together onstage on Feb. 23, 2024, when Carpenter also came out during the Surprise Songs portion for a mash-up of “White Horse” and “Coney Island.”
