The Palestinian commander blamed Israel for the blast. |
According to the World News Agency, the explosion took place in Lebanese territory near the Syrian border and caused a fire in a building and a vehicle, both of which were completely destroyed. It is not yet known whether the explosion took place in a vehicle or in a building.
Five members of the Palestinian militant group were killed and 10 wounded in the blast. The General Command of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine blamed Israel for the blast, saying Israel had carried out an airstrike in the eastern town of Qasaya.
The commander of the Palestinian organization also expressed his determination that full revenge will be taken from Israel for this attack and a strong response will be given.
Israeli officials, speaking to the BBC, rejected the Palestinian organization's accusations, while a Lebanese security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the explosion occurred during an ammunition transfer.
It should be noted that the Palestinian organization PFLP-GC is a relatively small militant group that was founded in 1968 and gained international notoriety for bombing an airplane and carrying out cross-border attacks in Israel in the 1970s and 1980s.
