A Chinese couple has fined the landlord with excessive electricity, water and gas consumption for failing to cancel a temporary home reservation. |
The couple, who came to Seoul, South Korea, from China, had booked a room on Airbnb (a global online organization and website where residents rent out a corner of their home for a few days) but had to cancel. It was denied that it was an official policy.
The Chinese couple had paid for three and a half weeks but later discovered they were far from Seoul. Attempts to cancel it proved unsuccessful. The Chinese couple then decided to take revenge.
First, they confirmed that there were no surveillance cameras in the house. After that, they used all the lights, kept the electrical appliances running, burned gas day and night, and turned on the taps until they used 120,000 liters of water. Interestingly, the couple only stayed home 5 days out of 25.
Over the next month, while the Chinese couple left, the utility billed a total of $116 for water usage, $730 for gas, and $728 for electricity and other expenses. So more of the loss than the entire rent went into paying those bills.
When the landlord approached the administration of the Airbnb website about this, they refused any cooperation.
