Nepal: Supreme Court orders release of notorious murderer Charles Sobhraj

Nepal's Supreme Court has ordered the release of notorious serial killer Charles Sobhraj. According to French news agency AFP, Nepal's Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the release of 78-year-old Charles Sobhraj on bail. He has been imprisoned in Nepal since 2003 for killing two American tourists.

French-born Charles Sobhraj, who was responsible for killings across Asia in the 1970s, was also featured in a series called Snake, which can be seen on Netflix.

"Keeping him (Charles Sobhraj) forever in prison is against the human rights of prisoners," the court's decision said. ##

"Charles Sobhraj requires open-heart surgery and his release is in accordance with the law that allows for compassionate release of bedridden prisoners who have already served three years of their sentence," the ruling added. A quarter is spent.'

The notorious killer underwent a five-hour heart operation in 2017 and is receiving regular treatment for his heart condition, the ruling said.

"Sobharaj is likely to be released from the Kathmandu Central Jail on Thursday," a prison official told AFP.

After a troubled childhood and several prison terms in France for petty crimes, Charles Sobhraj began traveling the world in the early 1970s, starting his practice in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

They first befriended the victims and then robbed and killed them after sedating them. Charles Sobhraj is said to be behind more than 20 murders.
