India has test-fired an Agni-5 ballistic missile in the dark of night

Agni-5 Ballistic Missile: India successfully test-fired the nuclear-capable Agni-5 ballistic missile on Thursday night. According to defense sources, this missile can hit targets up to 5000 km away. The test was conducted at 5.30 pm at APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.

Agni-5 was last tested in October 2021. The missile hits targets very accurately. It has a height of 17 meters and can carry a warhead weighing 1.5 tons. 

Remarkably, Agni 5 is the most advanced missile in the Agni series, with a range of over 5,000 km. In addition to the Agni-5 Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), India's Agni-series arsenal includes the 700 km range Agni-1, 2,000 km range Agni-2, Agni-3 and Agni-4. with a distance of up to 2500 km. The first two successful flights of Agni-5 took place in 2012 and 2013 in an open configuration. The third, fourth and today's launch from a canister integrated into an advanced mobile launcher was deliverable in its configuration that allows launch of the rocket with much less preparation time than in an open configuration. In addition, it has the advantages of high reliability, long service life, low maintenance and better mobility.
