Israel launched airstrikes on Gaza on Saturday morning and Islamic Jihad, a Palestinian militant group, fired rockets in retaliation.
Israel has said it carried out the operation against Islamic Jihad, which was planning an attack on Israel, in response to a possible threat.

Health officials say that a five-year-old girl and a 23-year-old woman are among the dead. On the other hand, Islamic Jihad has said that its commander in northern Gaza, Taseer al-Jabari, is among the dead.
Israel says that 15 militants have been killed during its operation. Abdullah Al-Arishi, a resident of Gaza, said that the situation in the city is tense, the country is being destroyed. We have seen enough fights.

In the past 15 years, Israel and Palestine have fought four fights and numerous smaller skirmishes.
On Friday, an explosion was heard in Gaza City and smoke billowed from the seventh floor of a high-rise building.
In a speech, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lepid said that his country carried out attacks based on 'concrete threats'.
Yair Lepid said that the government has a zero-tolerance policy against any kind of attack.
Special Representative Tar Wenzland has expressed concern over the current situation.
He said that the firing of rockets must stop immediately. "I call on all parties to avoid further escalation."

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum has said that "Israelis started a battle against Gaza and committed a new crime."
It will have to pay the price and take full responsibility for it.
Islamic Jihad is a smaller organization than Hamas, but both have a common ideology.
Both organizations are opposed to the existence of Israel and have carried out numerous attacks against Israel over the years.
These include rocket attacks on Israel. It is unclear how much control Hamas has over Islamic Jihad, but Israel blames Hamas for all attacks.
