The Indian gang that ran a
'fake police station' for 8 months

A gang has been caught in India who disguised themselves as police officers and ran a fake police station for eight months and extorted money from people.

Cases of fraud by pretending to be a police officer or official are common in India.

"In the state of Bihar, the gang set up a fake police station barely 500 meters away from the house of an actual local police officer, dressed up in uniforms with rank badges and carried guns," DC Srivastava said.

Visitors to the fake station started accepting money from locals for filing complaints and cases, while promising cash from others to help them get safe accommodation and police jobs.

When a real police officer saw two gang operatives buying guns made in a local workshop instead of agency-issued weapons.

Srivastava said that at least six members of the gang including two women have been arrested but the leader of the gang is still absconding. More information will be revealed.
