FIFA said about 1.8 million tickets had been sold in the first two phases of sales, without specifying how many tickets were now available.

FIFA has announced that the remaining tickets for this year's World Cup in Qatar will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from next week.

FIFA said about 1.8 million tickets had been sold in the first two phases of sales, without specifying how many tickets were now available.

FIFA said in a press release that online sales of the latest tickets will start from 5 July at 12pm Doha time (09:00 GMT) until 12pm on 16 August.

The global body said that the new round of sales is expected to have a lot of interest from around the world.

A total of 3 million tickets are available, including those reserved for sponsors, officials said.

Hassan Al Sawadi, the chief organizer of the World Cup, said that 1.2 million tickets have been sold so far.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said there were 5 million ticket requests for the final at the 80,000-seat Lucille Stadium alone.

Doha, with a population of around 2.4 million and limited accommodation, is bracing itself for a large influx of fans for the 32-team tournament.

Qatar last month announced multiple daily shuttle flights from neighboring Gulf countries, allowing fans to stay elsewhere and fly in to watch the games.

Qatar had said World Cup fans had "many options" with more than 100,000 rooms currently available and more expected by the time the tournament kicks off.

Some soccer fans have expressed concern that they have been unable to find budget-friendly accommodation for the World Cup, which runs from November 21 to December 18.

Accommodation prices range from 300 Qatari riyals (over $80) to several thousand dollars per night.

Umar Al-Jaber, the official in charge of accommodation for the organizing committee of the tournament, clarified that they have booked more than 25 thousand people so far.

He clarified that he was 'talking about bookings, not rooms or nights.'

Speaking to reporters on the occasion of a tour of the apartments available in Doha, he said that if you visit their website, you will find many options.

'And if you don't find a place today, you need to check back tomorrow or the day after tomorrow... because... we keep adding more inventory to this portal.'

He said that more than one lakh rooms are available till last week. "If we go to November, maybe we will reach more than 130,000 rooms or 140,000 rooms."

Fans usually have to find their own accommodation for such tournaments.
