The Israeli military says it has shot down drones belonging to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in the Mediterranean.

The sending of drones by Hezbollah indicates that it is an attempt to influence US-mediated talks on the maritime border between Israel and Lebanon.

The area is rich in natural gas. In a statement, Israel's caretaker Prime Minister Yair Leapid said "there was no clear threat, but he warned us not to take the test."

From Tehran, from the Lebanese coast to Syria: Don't test us, "he told the nation after taking office on Friday."

Israel knows how to use its power against every threat and every enemy. At the beginning of the year, Israel had set up a gas platform in the Karish field.

Israel says it is part of its internationally recognized economic waters. Lebanon claims it is in disputed waters.

Hezbollah has issued a brief statement confirming the sending of three drones into the disputed waters on a reconnaissance mission.

"The mission has been completed and the message has been received," he said.

The two fought a month-long fight in 2006. Israel considers Iranian-backed Hezbollah a serious threat and estimates that Hezbollah has 150,000 rockets and missiles to target Israel.
