Tsunami threat in Turkish and Egyptian cities, UN warning issued

Research shows that rising sea levels increase the risk of tsunamis

The United Nations has warned that cities near and around the Mediterranean are at risk of a tsunami.

According to Arab News, a UN agency says there is a 100 percent chance that in the next 30 years One meter high tidal wave will hit these cities.

It is further said that the danger is increasing due to rising sea level.

Countries around the Atlantic and Indian Oceans are aware of this danger.

According to a study conducted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), rising sea levels increase the risk of tsunamis, as it helps waves reach farther.

UNESCO says five cities in Egypt, including Alexandria and the Turkish city of Istanbul "The 2004 and 2011 tsunamis were a warning to us, killing nearly 2.5 million people," said Bernardo Eliaga, a tsunami expert at UNESCO.

We are safe, but there is a gap in preparation that we need to fill.

We have to make sure that tourists and locals understand the warning.

”Authorities in Istanbul, Alexandria and other Mediterranean cities are developing tsunami preparedness policies, including evacuation techniques.
