The Malaysian actor said that Xiang Yun and her husband Edmund Chen are like his "parents in Singapore" and that relationship shouldn't change even though he and Yixin aren't dating anymore.
Meeting your ex's family members after a breakup is probably one of the most awkward feelings in the world.
But that was thankfully not the case for Malaysian actor Gavin Teo, who ended his five-year relationship with local actress Chen Yixin, 23, in February this year.
During an interview with 8world, the 28-year-old actor, who's currently filming upcoming Mediacorp drama Undesirable Crimes, was asked if he's been coping well since the split.
"I haven't had the time to think too much because I've been busy filming every day. It has been like that for the past few months," said Gavin, who plays an ill-stricken cop in the show.
That said, it seems Gavin and Yixin are still on friendly terms.
According to the actor, who's managed by Artiste Co, the same agency as Yixin, the two of them still do check in on each other over text.
Gavin also had to act opposite Yixin's mum Xiang Yun, who plays a psychologist, in Undesirable Crimes.
The actor shared that he was initially worried things would be awkward with Xiang Yun on set, but his worries turned out to be in vain.
"In the end it wasn't (awkward). After all, we've known each other for so long. (Xiang Yun and husband Edmund Chen) are like my parents in Singapore and this bond would probably be here to stay," assured the Malaysian actor.
Xiang Yun agrees too.
Explaining that whatever happened between the couple is already in the past, Xiang Yun said: "I've always doted on Gavin. He’s like a son to me. They're all grown-ups, we shouldn't comment too much either."
Is Gavin ready to start a new relationship, though?
The actor said he's focusing on his career for now and would let nature take its course when it comes to romance.
As for whether he would choose to go public with his next relationship when he starts dating again, Gavin said he would leave it up to his partner to decide.
