United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg said today is a good day for hundreds of Yemeni families after more than eight years of conflict. 

According to Arab News, the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross have said that both sides have agreed to visit each other's detention centers and to allow delegations full access to all detainees during these visits.

The Yemeni government and the Houthis reached a mutual agreement to release 887 prisoners yesterday after ten days of talks in Geneva. 

A report released on the occasion said the meeting would be held again in May to discuss the transfer of more prisoners to Yemen. 

Explaining the deal, the UN special envoy for Yemen said that conflict resolution issues in Yemen are going in the right direction. 

Hans Grundberg said he congratulated everyone involved on the success of the deal, which has left hundreds of Yemeni families waiting to be reunited with loved ones. 

We must remember that the prisoner exchange agreement between the parties is good news not only for each other, but also for thousands of Yemeni families who have lived with the pain of separation from loved ones.

Referring to the March 10 announcement of the restoration of diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran, Grandberg added that he believed the move was an important step in a positive direction towards resolving the conflict in Yemen.
