9 killed in stampede during New Year fireworks in Uganda

Kampala: Nine people were killed in a rush to a shopping mall in Uganda's capital to watch New Year's fireworks. 

According to the foreign news agency AFP, police said nine people, including a 10-year-old boy, died when they were stuck in a narrow corridor to watch New Year's fireworks. 

According to the police, during the entrance to the fireworks, many people were trapped in the mass, some died from asphyxiation. 

People celebrated the New Year at the mall, which is located on a highway that connects Kampala to Entebbe International Airport. 

A police spokesman said rescue teams rushed to the scene and took the injured to hospital, where nine people were confirmed dead.
