Riots burnt property in Belgium after upset defeat by Morocco

After Belgium's embarrassing loss to Morocco at the FIFA World Cup, riots broke out in the European country and police arrested one person and arrested several others. 

In a World Cup full of surprises, European fans got another big surprise as Morocco beat Belgium 2-0 on Sunday. 

After this defeat, riots broke out in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, people protested in various places and valuable property was burned. 

The police arrested one person and arrested several others for acts of violence and damage to property during the riots. 

According to police spokesman Wayne De Keer, law and order was restored by 19:00 and the police are constantly patrolling different parts of the city. 

He said the protesters used various objects including petrochemical compounds, sticks and set fire to properties, while a journalist was also injured in the burning incidents. 

He said that after all these incidents, the police decided to intervene where water cannons and tear gas grenades were used to disperse the protesters. 

A statement issued by Brussels said some people took to the streets before the end of the game and tried to clash with police, posing a threat of disturbing the peace. 

At the time, more than 100 police officers were on duty while subway stations were closed and people were told not to go to different areas to control violent incidents. 

The violent protesters set fire to a car, several electric scooters and trash cans, smashed the windows of several buildings and attempted to damage other government buildings in several locations, according to a reporter from the AFP news agency. 

Local Belgians protested, Moroccans and some Arabs danced in the streets to celebrate the victory. 

The mayor of Brussels has also strongly condemned these violent incidents and said that I have instructed the police to take all possible measures to arrest and achieve peace. 

Meanwhile, in the eastern Belgian city of Liège, a gang of 50 attacked a police station, smashing windows in the car park and also damaging police vehicles. 

Similarly, people in Antwerp protested and set fire to a bus station where more than a dozen people were arrested.

It should not be forgotten that in Sunday's World Cup Group F match, Morocco became world champions for the first time in 24 years, defeating strong Belgium 2-0. 

Substitute Abdulhamid Sabri scored the first goal in the 73rd minute when the Belgian veteran failed to come from behind. 

In the closing stages of the match, Zakaria scored the second goal to give the Moroccan team a 2-0 lead and Belgium suffered a sudden defeat. 

At the same time, after 2 matches in group F, Morocco won the first position with 4 points, Croatia also has 4 points after 2 matches and is in second place in the group.
