US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed to meet directly.

President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping had a two-hour and 17-minute long telephone conversation on Thursday.

A US official said on condition of anonymity that Biden and Xi discussed the importance of a direct meeting.

discussed and agreed that their teams should work to find a mutually agreeable time. The two countries described the telephone call as a robust exchange on several issues between the world's two largest economic powers.

It was the fifth telephone contact between the two leaders since President Joe Biden took office a year and a half ago.

The official news agency Xinhua said that during the telephone conversation, President Xi Jinping used harsh words on the American policy on Taiwan.

Taiwan is a democratic country that has close relations with the United States, but China considers Taiwan its own part. Understands.

Chinese President Xi Jinping told the US President that 'those who play with fire will eventually be consumed.'

There is tension between the two countries over the issue of Taiwan. The Chinese government is also angry over the expected visit of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.

Although US officials visit Taiwan often, Beijing considers Nancy Pelosi's visit a major provocation.

She is the second most important figure after the US president and can travel with military transport given the position.

China warned on Wednesday that Washington would "suffer the consequences" if Nancy Pelosi travels to Taiwan.
