US President Joe Biden on Saturday welcomed Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi's offer to host talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran in Baghdad.

Joe Biden said this in a press conference held after a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in Jeddah.

Keep in mind that in recent years, threats from Iran against the United States and its allies have increased tensions in the region.

Last year, the Iraqi prime minister survived an assassination attempt that was blamed on some Iran-backed groups.

During the press conference, President Biden said that he wants to support Iraq's democracy.

"Let the press know that we want to be helpful." Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi spoke of the "strategic and friendly" relationship between Iraq and the United States.

About 2,500 American troops are providing local security in the fight against the extremist group ISIS.

Forces are still in Iraq to assist. The US President and the heads of the Gulf countries will discuss regional security and tensions with Iran in the conference.

They will also discuss increasing cooperation and improving relations between countries in the region and the United States.

President Biden also met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Jeddah.

This is President Biden's first meeting with his Egyptian counterpart after taking office.

President Biden thanked President El-Sisi for Egypt's role in ending the tension between Israel and Hamas last year.

Addressing Al-Sisi, he said that he is ready to work with him on all issues.
