At least 16 killed, 40 missing in Indian-administered Kashmir

At least 16 people have been killed and 40 others are missing after a cloudburst in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir region of Amarnath. 

According to Indian TV channel NDTV, about 15,000 pilgrims were evacuated from the holy cave of Amarnath. 

Has gone The incident took place near the Amarnath temple. Authorities say the injured have been taken to Baltal, where they are being treated. 

NDRF Director General Atal Karwal said, "It has been raining continuously but it has not hampered the rescue operations." 

He said the Indian Army, SDRF, rescue teams and other relief agencies "There was a stampede," said Deepak Chauhan, a pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh. But the army helped a lot. 

Authorities have temporarily suspended the Amarnath Yatra. The cloudburst had created a flood situation. 

President Ram Nath Kund and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the death of pilgrims in the accident. 

Home Minister Amit Shah has directed the concerned agencies and the administration of Jammu and Kashmir to expedite rescue and relief measures. 

But some women pilgrims say they are being harassed by the Indian Army during the relief operation. 

Millions of people from different states of India come to Kashmir every year for the Amarnath Yatra. 

Due to the corona virus outbreak in 2020 and 2021, this religious ceremony could not be held.
