The body of the British woman was lying in her house in London for two and a half years, but the landlord and neighbors remained unaware.

According to the British newspaper Guardian, 61-year-old Sheila Ceylan died at her home in southeast London.

London Local Court opened an inquest into the woman's death, which revealed she was last seen in August 2019.

The post-mortem report said that the cause of death could not be ascertained due to decomposition of the body.

The woman's body was found in her flat after two and a half years in February this year.

The investigation also revealed that the landlord and the police missed many opportunities when the woman's death could have been known in time.

Neighbors told the court that the woman's housing association and the police were repeatedly contacted, but no response was received.

The woman had not been paying rent since August 2019 after which the landlord disconnected the gas supply in June 2020.

The controller of the Metropolitan Police had also falsely told the landlord that the woman had been seen alive.

Coroner Dr Julian Morris, handling the inquest, said: 'Any death is tragic but two years on any death.

To be ignorant for longer than 2022 and that too in 2022 is incomprehensible.'
