One killed, five injured in church attack

According to police, the assailant was captured and tied up by people in the church

One person has been killed and five others injured in a shooting at a church in the US state of California. 

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon. 

Police say the attacker was apprehended and tied up by people in the church. 

Orange County Undershire Jeff Hallock told a news conference after the incident: An unidentified 60-year-old man was arrested at the church. 

He added that "church staff showed bravery by controlling the attacker, they certainly saved many lives." 

It was not immediately clear if the shootings took place inside or outside the church hall. 

An investigation is under way into whether the attack was the result of hate speech or whether he knew members of the community. 

More than 80 percent of Laguna Woods residents are around 65 years old because the city was built for the elderly. 

The city is 80 kilometers south of Los Angeles. A tweet from Governor Gavin Newsom's office said the situation was being monitored. 

At least 10 people were killed in a shooting at a shopping mall.

The Associated Press quoted police as saying that a gunman, Patten Gendron, shot dead 11 black civilians before surrendering to authorities. 

Police say a white gunman dressed in military-style clothing during the attack showed a live shooting on the streaming platform Twitch for at least two minutes. 

The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a Buffalo supermarket. 

Three people were also injured in the incident. 

Police termed the incident as racist. 

Law enforcement officials say the shooter, a resident of Connolly, New York, has been arrested.
