Indian government persistence 20 Rohingya refugees stranded at sea died of hunger and thirst

Due to the Indian government's persistence, the Rohingya refugee's boat has been stuck in the open sea for 25 days, where more than 20 people, including children, have lost their lives due to lack of food and water.

According to the Reuters news agency, a boat carrying Rohingya refugees with more than 100 people on board has been stranded near India's Andaman Islands for 25 days.

India does not allow the boat to go ashore, leaving the refugees in dire straits, while around 20 of them have died of starvation, thirst and drowning.

Five Indian ships reached the refugee boat, but they did not help the people in need or allow them to go ashore.

A volunteer working for the rights of Myanmar and Rohingya refugees said: "20 refugees have died so far due to India's horrific and provocative behavior".

Priyali Sur, a refugee rights activist in New Delhi, told Al Jazeera that the situation on the boat "is getting worse and worse."

He said two children were among the dead, while there were also two young men who ended their lives by jumping into the sea for lack of hope after being stranded at sea for more than 25 days.
