Air India is about to buy 500 aircraft

Indian airline Air India is ready to place a historic order of more than 500 aircraft. Reuters news agency reported Sunday that Air India, owned by Indian business giant Tata Group, said Sunday the company may buy the multi-billion dollar plane, which will include planes from Airbus and Boeing.

The order includes around 400 light aircraft and 100 wide-bodied aircraft. About a dozen of these will be Airbus 350s, Boeing 787s and 777s.

Reuters quoted airline industry sources as saying the deal is now in its final stages. At more than $100 billion, it would be the largest order by any airline in terms of aircraft count.

It should be noted that a decade ago American Airlines ordered 460 planes and Airbuses, but Air India will surpass it in aircraft purchases with this order. Airbus and Boeing did not comment on the deal. was evasive, while the Tata Group also did not immediately comment.

It should be noted that this anticipated deal comes days after Tata announced the formation of Air India and Singapore Airlines' joint venture Vistara, which aims to expand its services in regional and global airspaces.

After this deal, Air India will become the largest airline in the country and the second largest in the region. It should be noted that Air India was once known for its lavishly decorated aircraft and excellent service, but in the mid-2000s its reputation was marred by financial difficulties.

Now Air India is on the way to gaining a bigger share of the regional and international air transport market. On the other hand, experts warn that there are still many obstacles in the way of restoring Air India's strong global position, including at the national level.

These include poor infrastructure, pilot shortages and competition from existing airlines in the market and from other countries.
