An American woman has accused cosmetics company L'Oreal of being diagnosed with uterine cancer after using hair straightening products.

Jenny Mitchell, a woman, has taken the stand in the lawsuit that she used L'Oréal (USA) products for more than two decades before developing uterine cancer that required her ovaries to be surgically removed.

The lawsuit comes days after a study was published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute linking the use of chemical hair straightening products to ovarian cancer.

Research has shown that women who use the product more than four times a year are twice as likely to develop uterine cancer as women who do not use these products. Ovarian cancer, however, is less common. But its incidence is increasing in America, especially among black women.

"Black women have long been victims of dangerous products marketed specifically to them," Mitchell's attorney, Ben Crump, said in a statement.

The lawsuit, filed on Friday, seeks damages from the US arm of French cosmetics giant L'Oreal, among other companies.

"We will likely find that the tragic case of Jenny Mitchell is just one of countless cases in which companies aggressively mislead black women to increase their profits," Crump said. has not yet given any response regarding this case.
