Five people, including a police officer, have been killed in a shooting in Raleigh, the capital of the US state of North Carolina. Raleigh Mayor Mary Ann Baldwin says the shooting happened on a hiking trail where people often go for recreation.

The Raleigh Police Department has confirmed five fatalities, including a police officer who was off-duty during the shooting. The police department confirmed the suspect's arrest in a tweet after the incident. 

Raleigh Mayor Marie According to Baldwin, the injured included a law enforcement officer who was taken to the hospital but did not survive. 

In the year 2022 alone, 34 thousand people have died. More than half of them are those who committed suicide using weapons.

Mayor Mary Baldwin said that this type of senseless violence in the United States must be ended. There are 120 guns for 100 people.
