The United States has seized more than 600,000 barrels of crude oil smuggled from Iran from a tanker off the coast of Greece.

According to Arab News, the move is part of a series of new sanctions against Iran.

On Thursday, the seized oil was transferred from the tanker to another ship and will now be taken to the United States.

The oil tanker, called The Pegasus, was targeted for two reasons.

One was that the tanker was owned by Russia and the other was loaded with Iranian oil.

The United States had also imposed sanctions on five ships before Russia invaded Ukraine on February 22.

These ships include the Pegasus.

The tanker was renamed the Lama on March 1 and has been transporting Iranian oil since May 1.

The oil tanker was initially seized by Greek authorities off the coast of the southern Greek island of Ivia last month.

Had taken It also had 19 Russian crew members on board.

Greece said at the time that the ship was intercepted under EU sanctions on Russia because of the Ukraine conflict, but was later abandoned.

The force imposed new sanctions on the Russian-backed oil smuggling and money laundering network, which led to the recapture of the oil tanker.

Iranian ports and the Maritime Organization said the tanker Due to technical problems and bad weather, she took refuge near the Greek coast and the seizure of her belongings is a clear example of piracy.

The Iranian embassy in Tehran Summoned the in-charge of affairs.

The ministry said the ship was in Greek waters with the banner of the Islamic Republic of Iran and was informed of the Iranian government's strong concerns.

What happened to those who left for Venezuela and then transferred them to two other ships with the help of unknown foreign partners.

He was later extradited to the United States. The crackdown on smuggled Iranian oil has dashed Iran's hopes of reviving a nuclear deal with the Western powers (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action).

Negotiations over the resumption of the deal have stalled, and the seizure of the new oil tanker indicates that the United States is on track to re-impose sanctions.

The prospects for recovery are now slim and the United States is ready to tighten sanctions on Iran.
